Free At Last........Free At Last!

No more arm restraints!!

Thanks be to God!!! Luke got an outstanding report from all doctors yesterday. The urologist says he's "perfect" and there is no need to return. (Yay!) Dr. Kawamoto, at UCLA, is head of the plastics team that did Luke's surgery. He was darn proud of his work and "showed it off" to the entire team.
We couldn't be more proud of our little guy. He has been an amazing trooper.
Again, thank you for your prayers!

Has It Been Two Weeks Yet?

Luke likes to put toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, whatever he can find on his "owies" This morning I found him holding TP on his mouth! Poor Baby.

So we cheated a little bit. I let him sleep with the splints off his arms. I thought socks were a great idea. Although after last night, as he's skipping down the hall with a toothbrush in his mouth, I'm having second thoughts!

Here's Lucas..........ready for his day with no complaints. Posted by Picasa

24 HOURS POST-OP

Luke, Jill, Me

What a difference a day makes!!

Luke asks everybody he sees to please take off his arm restraints. When they don't, he simply accepts it. (so far) Tonight, after his bath, he actually HELPED me put them back on.

XIONG=HERO!

A little fun the night before

Did you know that Luke's Chinese name means "Hero?". That's what he is alright! I will try to describe what the last three days have been like with the "Amazing Lucas!" I don't believe I've ever met anyone as brave as our boy. Not only is he brave, he's very trustworthy. He never appeared to question my love for him, or show resentment toward me. What an amazing boy!

Sunday: Luke had a blast hanging out with me, Aunt Jill, and cousin Bethany. We palyed, we ate, and we moved Beth into her college dorm. We stayed at the Tiverton House, a wonderful hotel run by UCLA and directly across the street from the hospital.

Luke's new friend!

Monday at 5:00am we are heading to the hospital. Of course, there was lots of waiting, signing papers, and yawning as we anxioulsy await our name to be called. I'm the only one allowed in pre-op with Luke. He's decided, after 15 mins. that he's had enough and starts waving "bye-bye" to everybody. Next comes the "God Moment." His anesthesiologist is Chinese! He speaks Mandarin!! The team member they send from plastics is Chinese!! She speaks Mandarin!!! They tell Luke everything that is about to happen. In the meantime, they're totally falling in love with "Mr. Personality" It couldn't have been an easier transition from my arms to the Dr's. arms. AMAZING! GOD IS SOOO GOOD!

The surgery(s) lasted 3 hours. Every Dr. was quite happy with how their job went, and said Luke did great. I was able to be with him in recovery at about 11am. Of course the first day was very rough. Luke's biggest complaint seemd to be the stitch they put in his tongue. They explained to me that it was there as a precaution in case he ran into respiratory distress, they could pull on his tongue and clear his airway. Luke found it most annoying and painful. We managed to get a lot of liquids in him Monday night and Tuesday morning so the staff was quite pleased!

As you can see by the photos on this post and the next, his transformation was miraculous. I give credit to our mighty God and the prayers of His people. THANK YOU!!

Upcoming Surgery

Dear Friends and Family,

We are asking for prayers for Luke. He is having his palate repaired, tubes in his ears, and a circumcision Monday, August 21st. We need to have him at the admitting desk at 5:00 am. My sister Jill, niece Bethany, and I, will leave Sunday afternoon and have a little fun in L.A. before the big event on Monday.

Please pray for the doctors, the surgery to go perfectly, Mark and the kids heading to their first day back to school, but most of all, pray for Luke's healing and comfort. It will be incredibly difficult to see him in such pain. Please pray he will know in his heart that I still love him and want what's best for him.

He is such a happy little guy. If it weren't for his speech delay, you'd never even know he had a cleft palate. He has

adapted so well. Even though we kow this is what we have to do, it will be so hard to see him suffer. I know the Lord will be with us every step of the way.

Our love for this little guy just grows by leaps and bounds everyday. He has come so far, and we are so very proud to be his family.

Thanks for your prayers. I will keep you updated on his progress.

Love,

Elizabeth

Luke's First Haircut!

So......our boy finally had enough hair to cut! He was soooo good! I bet he thought this was nothing compared to his last visit to the "beauty shop" in the orphanage. There......they just shaved his head!

Okay so he's not crazy about the idea.

Did somebody say "chocolate" if I'm good?

Santa Barbara Getaway

Well, so much for Mark's knee surgery that was scheduled for Aug. 2. They had to postpone it. We decided to make the best of it and headed to the beach! Nick and Amy both had places they had to be, so it was just the 4 of us. Here are some highlights....

Our precious boy.
